‘Acquire professional knowledge’

Hamid urges members of armed forces

President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged members of the armed forces to put emphasis on acquiring technical and professional knowledge.

He made the remarks while delivering his speech at the national standard parade programme at the parade ground of Artillery Centre and School in Chattogram.

National standard were conferred on field regiment artillery 1, 2 and 3 and 38 Air Defense Regiment Artillery, reports UNB.

Hamid said technology is synonymous to modernisation. "In order to keep up with modern technology, all members [of the forces] from now on will have to put special emphasis on acquiring necessary technical and professional knowledge," he stressed.

"A modern, time-befitting and strong military is essential for any country," President Hamid observed, reports BSS. "Armed forces will have to contribute to the welfare of people and country," he said.

He further said members of Bangladesh Army have brightened the image of Bangladesh in the world through their dedication and professionalism in establishing world peace. 

He added that the works for modernising, restructuring and expanding Bangladesh Army are onw as per the "Defense Policy" framed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1974.

The head of the state said the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to implement the "Forces Goal-2030". Various steps have been taken to improve the artillery regiment as part of the advancement of Bangladesh Army, he added.

President Hamid said the army will have to be always ready to sacrifice for the country, alongside protecting the sovereignty.

The president also took salute and inspected the parade. After the programme, he joined a photo session with senior officials and also signed the visitor's book.

Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed received the president after he arrived at the parade ground.

Members of parliament, senior officials of the armed forces, dignitaries, diplomats and secretaries concerned to the president, among others, were present at the event.
