The wife of an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official died at a hospital in Dhaka yesterday morning, a day after she allegedly set herself on fire.

Tania Ishrat, wife of ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf, breathed her last at Combined Military Hospital around 10am, said Nure Alam Siddiqui, officer-in-charge of Uttara East Police Station.

Quoting her family members, the OC said Tania set herself ablaze on Wednesday night at their house in Uttara’s sector-6. Hearing her scream, family members rescued and took her to the hospital, the OC added.

“Tania was not mentally stable. For the last two to three days, she was not feeling well,” said Shakhawat Hossain Gahar, an uncle of the deceased.

Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, who conducted the autopsy, said, “We have sent samples for viscera test. Reason behind her death will be ascertained after getting the report.”
