ACC catches revenue officer for taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday caught a supervisor of revenue office of zone-3, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) for taking Tk 7,000 bribe for renewal of trade licenses.

On the basis of a tip-off received on ACC's hotline (106), a seven-member team led the drive.

Sensing their presence, brokers fled the scene. One of the brokers left a bag in which ACC members found some important documents, 16 trade license books, and bank deposit slip, according to a press release.

In its enquiry, the team found DSCC's Supervisor (License and Advertisement) Chandra Shekhor Roy took Tk 7,000 as bribe from one Ratan Kumar Babu for renewal of trade license.

The team coordinated by ACC's Director General Muhammad Munir Chowdhury asked DSCC's Executive Officer of zone-3, SM Ansaruzjaman, to go to the spot. ACC team members produced documents of corruption against Chandra Shekhor there.

Ansaruzjaman confirmed that a team of ACC came to the revenue office. “They have produced documents of corruption against Chandra Shekhor,” he said.

“I'll inform it to higher authority. They will decide whether the supervisor will be suspended,” he added.

ACC will continue its drive, and if necessary, will make a list of corruptors with help of city corporations and begin enquiry, he added.
