Abrar Murder: Nationwide protests continue
Social and political platforms continued their protests demanding capital punishment for the killers of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
Nagorik Andolon Mancha’s Satkhira unit formed a human chain in front of the Press Club of the city.
They demanded ensuring capital punishment for the killers and taking effective measures to stop all forms of torture at all educational institutions of the country.
Speakers at the programme said that banning organisation-based politics is not the solution, rather practice of fair politics is the way to avert recurrence of such incidents.
At Barishal, BNP district and city units held a rally in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.
Speakers at the programme demanded immediate release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, capital punishment of killers of Abrar and cancellation of the recently signed treaties between India and Bangladesh.
Mojibor Rahman Sorwar, Barishal city BNP president, presided over the rally. Among others, Ebaydul Haque Chan, district BNP President; Mejauddin Farhad, former lawmker and Zia Uddin Shikder, among others, spoke at the event.
Meanwhile, police yesterday barred BNP’s central leader Amanullah Aman from going to slain Buet student Abrar Fahad’s village home in Kushtia.
Sources said Aman, advisor to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaldea Zia, was going to Fahad’s house along with a group of leaders and activists of the party, including BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Nazim Uddin Alam.
Abdur Razzak Bachchu, office secretary of Kushtia district unit of BNP, said Aman wanted to go to Abrar’s home to console the latter’s family on behalf of the BNP Chairperson.
Bachchu said a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Kushtia’s Bheramara Circle), Abul Kalam Azad, stopped the BNP leader’s microbus when it was crossing Lalon Shah Bridge in Bheramara at about 12pm.
He alleged that Aman was forced to go back from the spot.
In his reaction, Aman said, “On one hand, they are killing innocent people and on the other, they are obstructing people going to console the victim’s family. Where will people go?”
Contacted, ASP Azad said, “Situation in the area is calming down gradually, and it might get worse with the visit of a political leader.”
