Abrar Murder: BNP to rally in Khulna today

BNP yesterday decided to stage a public rally in front of its Khulna city office today, protesting murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad and demanding release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The decision came from a joint preparatory meeting organised by the city and district units of BNP. Nazrul Islam Manju, party’s central committee organising secretary and the city unit president, chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the speakers condemned the killing, saying that during the last 11 years, Bangladesh Chhatra League occupied all the educational campuses.

Leaders of BCL, established a reign of terror by torturing thousands of students and repressing its opponents, said BNP leaders, adding that the pro-Awami League student organisation is also involved in killing, extortion and tender manipulation.

They have to be ousted from all campuses in the country, demanded speakers.

The discussants also sought an immediate ban on BCL. The politically-affiliated appointments of university vice chancellors and college principals have to be cancelled and the posts have to be replaced with neutral, competent and skilled persons, they demanded further.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a BNP standing committee member, will be present as the chief guest at the public gathering today.

District BNP president Shafiqul Alam Mona, city unit general secretary Mohammad Moniruzzaman, senior vice-president Shaharuzzaman Mortaza, district general secretary Amir Ejaz Khan, and party leaders Sheikh Raza, Mir Hossain, Md Halim, Salam Abdul Rahman, Tariqul Islam were, among others, present at the preparatory meeting yesterday.

Abrar Fahad was a second-year student of Buet. He was beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League men at his university dorm on Sunday night.
