Abolish Digital Security Act

Demands Barishal Reporters Unity

Journalists in Barishal yesterday demanded abolishment of Digital Security Act and implementation of the ninth wage board award.

They were addressing the 19th annual general meeting (AGM) of Barishal Reporters Unity (BRU) at its office in the city.

They also sought that an independent broadcasting commission be formed comprising representatives from all sectors involved with the media.

To ensure press freedom, the journalists demanded an end to all forms of suppression against media activists.

At the programme, BRU decided to observe “Mujib Barsho”, marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and “Fifty Years of Independence”.

Among others, Anisur Rahman Khan Swapan, Kamal Masudur Rahman, Mithun Saha, Ariful Islam, Kamrul Ahsan, SM Jewel, Mushfiq Sourav, Marjina Begum participated in the AGM.

At the event, a new nine-member executive committee of BRU for 2019-20 was announced with The Daily Star Barishal Correspondent Sushanta Ghosh being elected its president and Mithun Saha of Boishakhi TV general secretary.
