Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Samanta Lal Sen honoured

HRPB recognises their contributions

Bishwo Shahitto Kendro founder Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed and National Coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal Sen were honoured yesterday for their contributions to their respective fields.

Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a rights organisation, gave the HRPB Award-2016 to Dr Sen for his contribution to healthcare, and HRPB Award-2017 to Prof Abu Sayeed for his contribution to education.

The organisation handed mementos to them at a programme held at Supreme Court bar auditorium in the city yesterday afternoon.

Speaking there, Prof Abu Sayeed cited media reports on the growing number of rich people in the country, and stressed the need for empathetic human beings for nation building.

Dr Sen in his speech recalled his early professional life as a plastic surgeon, and said the untold sufferings and distress of burn patients motivated him to be a doctor for burn victims.

He expressed hopes of working for the burn patients till his last breath.

Speaking at the programme, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, magician Jewel Aich, and actress Sarah Begum Kobori highlighted the awardees' contribution to nation-building and service to people.

HRPB President Advocate Manzill Murshid presided over the programme.
