The arrestees are Mohammad Selim, 30 and Mohammad Sohel, 34, said Alamgir Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station.

A 28-year-old garment worker was forcibly picked up and raped by the two arrestees around 9:00pm near a school in Charpathar Ghata area of Khoajnagar while she was on way from work to her home, he added.

Police rescued her from the spot after the criminals left her there and she called 999, the national emergency helpline, OC Alamgir said, adding that based on information provided by her, they arrested the two in raids conducted early yesterday morning.

He also said the arrestees, during primary interrogation, have confessed to raping the woman and police will produce them before the court on Thursday.
