Narcotics Cases

92 arrestees sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent 92 people to jail in connection with 16 cases filed with Mohammadpur Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act on March 22 and 23.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moinul Islam passed the order after police produced them before the court.

According to forwarding reports, police sought five-day remands for 45 people and seven-day remands for seven people.

Defense lawyers also filed petitions seeking bail for them.

However, the court denied both remand prayers and bail petitions, and sent them to jail.

On Friday, 92 people were arrested in a five-hour anti-narcotics drive by Rab in Mohammadpur's Geneva Camp.

The elite force claimed to have seized 12,000 yaba pills, eight to 10 kilogrammes of cannabis, 20 bottles of Phensedyl and 90 ampules of morphine.
