70,000 yaba pills seized in port city

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7), in separate drives, arrested three persons and seized 70,070 yaba pills from them in Chattogram yesterday.

The arrestees are Monwarul Hassan, 42; Md Nasibur Rahman Nasib, 42, from Faridpur; and Md Rashed, 27, from Pirojpur, said Rab-7 sources.

On secret information, a Rab-7 team installed a check-post on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Patiya upazila. They then intercepted a microbus coming from Cox’s Bazar around 12:30pm, said Assistant Director (AD) Mashkur Rahman of Rab-7 Media Wing.

After searching the vehicle, Rab seized 60,800 pills, which were concealed inside a laptop, sound box and bag belonging to Nasib and Rashed. They then arrested the duo, said AD Mashkur.

Another Rab-7 team conducted a drive at port city’s Agrabad Badamtoli area and arrested Monwarul around 1:15am. They seized 9,270 pills from inside his motorbike, the Rab official said.

During primary interrogation, Monwarul admitted that he collected the pills from Cox’s Bazar to sell them in the city, he added.
