Seven-year-old killed in N’ganj road crash

Three die in other accidents

A seven-year-old madrasa student was killed and her sister injured after a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit them in Ramnagar area of Fatullah upazila in Narayanganj yesterday. 

The deceased is Haspi Akhtar Apu, daughter of Al-Amin. She was a second-grader at a local madrasa, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station.

Quoting witnesses, the OC said the accident occurred while the two children were walking to a shop around 5:30pm. The auto-rickshaw ran over Haspi, killing her on the spot, while colliding with her sister Mansura (5).

Locals took the injured to a nearby hospital. The driver fled after the accident.

On information, the child’s body was recovered and sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Attempts to arrest the driver are underway, and legal action will be taken in this connection, the OC said.

In Kishoreganj, two people died after a train hit their motorbike at Mondolbagh village in Katiadi upazila around 1:20pm yesterday, said railway police, quoting locals.

The deceased are Abdul Hamid (50), an assistant teacher of Mirzapur Shaheed Alauddin High School; and motorbike driver Borhan Uddin (35).

The accident occurred when they were passing through Mondolbagh Railway Crossing. At that time, a train hit the motorbike, killing Hamid on the spot and critically injuring Borhan, they added.

Borhan was rushed to the upazila health complex. On-duty doctors there declared him dead.

On information, police recovered the bodies and handed them over to their family.

An unnatural death case has been lodged.

In Gopalganj Sadar upazila, Mollah Md Moniruzzaman (58) was killed after a tractor hit him in front of Sheikh Kamal International Stadium around 7:30am yesterday, said police.

Moniruzzaman was rushed to Gopalganj General Hospital, where an on-duty doctor declared him dead, they added.

Police seized the tractor and arrested its driver.
