6 killed in road accidents

Six people were killed and four injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

Two people were killed and three others were injured as two trucks collided on Dhaka-Sirajganj highway in Nalka of Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj.

The victims’ identities could not be known immediately, said Shahid Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station.

A truck hit a rickshaw-van from behind on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Ashulia. Rickshaw-puller Nayon Sheikh, 28, was declared dead at a local hospital, said Sazzadur Rahman, SI of Ashulia Police Station, adding that the trucker fled the scene with the vehicle.

A man was killed and another injured as a truck overturned while crossing a bridge in Bottola area of Patuakhali’s Dumki.

The vehicle, carrying an excavator, skidded off Patuakhali-Baufal road, said Dumki Police Station OC Md Moniruzzaman.

Operator of the excavator Saifuddin, 32, died on the spot.

Injured Aman Ullah, 25, helper of the trucker, was admitted to Dumki Upazila Health Complex.

A truck hit college teacher Jahanara Khatun, 38, on Khulna-Satkhira highway in Patkelghata area, killing her instantly.

Khejmat Ali, 35, a mechanical engineer of a private firm, was killed as a truck hit a microbus carrying him on Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway in Khochabari of Thakurgaon sadar upazila.
