5,872 win BSK reading awards

A total of 5,872 students have won awards in Bishwo Shahitto Kendro's (BSK) book reading programme for last year. They are among 40,000 students of class 6 to 10 from 96 schools in the capital, who took part in the reading contest, said a press release.

Addressing the award ceremony at Notre Dame College yesterday, BSK founder Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed said reading enlightens the mind. He urged students to read works of noted personalities and dedicate themselves for the betterment of society.

Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal stressed the need for developing reading habit that would help create a knowledge-based society.

Congratulating the students, writer-journalist Anisul Hoque urged them to apply knowledge gained from reading books in real life.

A total of 3,874 students received prizes yesterday, first day of the two-day award ceremony.
