BYLC Running with Purpose 2019

500 runners unite for transforming education

Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, organised a 7.5 kilometre run yesterday in Hatirjheel, marking this year’s UN International Youth Day’s theme -- transforming education.

Around 500 runners of diverse backgrounds participated in BYLC Running with Purpose 2019, with the theme ‘Fit Body for a Fit Mind,’ said a press release.

Speaking at the event, Ejaj Ahmad, founder and president of BYLC, said, “By bringing people together for this run, BYLC wants to promote the importance of good health. We also want to draw attention to young people’s right to inclusive and equitable education as it is a fundamental tool for sustainable development.”

Speaking as chief guest, Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, state minister for youth and sports, said, “We need to make sure that the wellbeing of students is given due importance. Our ministry is committed to working with young people to help improve their education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

“Running not only helps with fitness, but there is also evidence to suggest that running leads to better emotional wellbeing as well as productivity at work. I congratulate BYLC for organising this event,” said Dr Md Jafar Uddin, acting secretary of the youth and sports ministry.

The run was organised with support from Manusher Jonno Foundation, UKaid, Praava Health, Purnava Naturals, Abdul Monem Limited, and Elite Force. United News Bangladesh (UNB) and Nagorik TV were media partners.

BYLC aims to build connections among youths from diverse backgrounds, equip them with leadership skills, and enable them to have high impact in public, private, and civil sectors.
