5 police officers held with yaba

Police yesterday remanded five of its members through a Dhaka court on charges of possessing and dealing with contraband Yaba pills.

The court placed Constable Prasanta Mandal and Nayek Md Jahangir Alam of 1st Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Assistant Sub-inspector Masud Ahmed Miaji of Gulshan Police Station on three-day remand each, says a Dhaka Metropolitan Police release.

Constable Md Roni Molla and Constable Shariful Islam of APBn were placed on two-day remand each, it said.

Around 4pm on Sunday, a team of APBn nabbed Prasanta with 552 pieces of Yaba, Shariful with Tk 15,000 drug money, and Roni for selling Yaba from an APBn barrack near Haji Camp.

After quizzing Prasanta, APBn nabbed ASI Masud and Nayek Jahangir for their involvement in drug-dealing.

A drug related case was filed against them with Uttara Purbo Police Station, the release added.
