5 BCC officials suspended for 'corruption'

The Barishal City Corporation authorities have suspended five of its officials for their alleged involvement in corruption and mismanagement.

They are Nurul Islam, market superintendent; Mashiur Rahman, accounts and budget officer; Dipok Lal Mridha, conservancy officer; and Zahangir Hossain and Asma Begum Rubi, work assistants.

The decision was taken following a meeting of councillors and BCC officials in the presence of Mayor Serniabad Sadik Abdulla on Sunday, said Khairul Hasan, chief executive officer of BCC.

The CEO said the action was taken against them as they were found guilty in primary investigation.

However, he did not give any further details.
