400 maunds of mangoes destroyed

A mobile court yesterday destroyed 400 maunds of mangoes that were allegedly ripened using chemicals, from Jatrabari fruit wholesale market in the capital.

Most of the fruits were supposed to hit the market in the first week of June. But they were ripened using chemicals and other methods, which is illegal, said Sarwoer Alam, executive magistrate of Rab, who led the drive.

Law enforcers also fined nine wholesale depots Tk 24 lakh for selling those mangoes, said the executive magistrate.

He said such drives will continue.
