Three workers died after they were electrocuted by a high voltage live wire at the Buriganga River dredging works in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Joru Sheikh (45), and his brother Saiful Sheikh (35) from Sirajganj, and Monjurul Haque (40) from Bogura.

The trio came in contact with a 11,000-volt hanging electric wire around 11:00am and died on the spot, said Md Ikram Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hazaribagh Police Station.

Two others were injured in the incident and they have been sent to the hospital for treatment, he added.

Locals said the workers were hired to help with the dredging of the river when they were electrocuted.

The bodies were sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue, the OC said.
