'Plotting Subversion'

3 RU students sent to jail

Three students of Rajshahi University (RU) were sent to jail yesterday for their alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

They are Ahsan Habib, Jonan Hossain and Towhidur Rahman, all final year students of Islamic Studies department, said Md Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.

Nurul Alam Muhammad Nipu of Rajshahi's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court passed the order, after the three of them were produced before it in a case on charges of planning to carry out subversive activities, said the OC.

Earlier on Thursday night, Motihar police detained them from Binodpura area of the city, adjacent to the university campus.

They were apparently holding a secret meeting there in order to carry out subversive activities ahead of the national election, the OC claimed.
