3 judges appointed to Appellate Division

Three High Court judges have been appointed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The judges are --Justice Zinat Ara, Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee and Justice Md Nuruzzaman,Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal told The Daily Star.

President Md Abdul Hamid has made the appointment as per the constitution, he said, adding that the law ministry yesterday issued a gazette notification on the appointment.

The new apex court judges will be sworn in today.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain will administer oath to the new Appellate Division judges at the Supreme Court’s Judges’ Lounge at 10:30am today, SC Registrar General Md Zakir Hossain told The Daily Star.

With them, the number of the Appellate Division judges stands seven.

The three judges have been appointed to the Appellate Division as the apex court is going through a shortage of judges for more than two years.
