3 get life term for BCL leader murder

Rajshahi's speedy trial tribunal sentenced three persons to life-term imprisonment in a case filed for murdering Rabiul Islam, a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader of Rajshahi University School and College, in 2013.

Judge Anup Kumar delivered the verdict in presence of two accused -- Babla and Sohag, said public prosecutor Entajul Haque. Setu Islam, the key accused, is absconding.

They were also fined Tk 10,000 each, and failing to pay the fine, they would have to serve another six months in jail.

On April 14, 2013, the accused stabbed Rabiul over a feud centring a stolen laptop. Rabiul died on way to a hospital.

His brother filed a murder case with Boalia Police Station, accusing 12 named and six unnamed persons. Police submitted charge sheet in 2014, accusing 10 persons. The court acquitted seven accused.
