3 AL activists remanded

A court in Chattogram yesterday placed three activists of Awami League’s Lal Khan Bazar ward on one-day remand in connection with a case filed over vandalising an AL leader’s office during a factional clash on June 28.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman passed the remand order after police produced the AL men before the court with five-day remand prayer.

Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed said the court granted one-day remand for Sabuj Miazi, Shahjahan and Md Ali in a case filed with Khulshi Police Station.

Earlier, a Chattogram court had sent 27 followers of port city Swecchasebok League leader Abul Hasnat Md Belal  to jail in the vandalism case after they surrendered before it and pleaded for bail on July 4.

On June 28 and 29, followers of Belal and Didarul Alam Masum, acting general secretary of Lalkhan Bazar ward AL, had locked into clash at Lalkhan Bazar area leaving four persons injured.

Police filed a case on charge of assaulting cops during the clash while a follower of Masum filed a case against the followers of Belal for vandalising Masum’s office during the factional confrontation.
