23 Jamaat men sent to jail

A Chattogram court yesterday sent 23 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to jail after they surrendered before the court in a case filed with Double Mooring Police Station over subversive activities and assaulting police in 2018.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman sent them to jail after their bail period granted by the High Court expired, said Public Prosecutor Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

Advocate Fakhruddin said the Jamaat men sought a new bail order after surrender, but the court denied it following a hearing.

On December 14, 2018, police filed a case with Double Mooring Police Station against the men for carrying out an attack on police and plotting subversive activities to halt the government’s development.
