2 killed in Dinajpur, Magura road accidents

One injured

Two people, including a policeman, were killed and another was injured in two separate road accidents in Dinajpur and Magura yesterday.

In Chirirbandar of Dinajpur, Bhupoti Roy, 45, a teacher at Adarsha Mahabidyalaya in Dinajpur town, was killed after the motorbike he was riding was hit by a truck in the afternoon.

Locals rushed a critically-injured Bhupoti, along with his friend Ajit Chandra Roy, 30, who was accompanying him, to the M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at around 4:00pm, police said quoting locals.

Bhupoti was from Jhanjhira village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

In a similar incident in Magura, police official Limon Hossain, 25, succumbed to his injuries after the motorbike he was driving was run over by a speeding truck near a kitchen market in Magura town.

Limon -- son of Liakat Hossain from Majhail village in Sreepur of Magura -- was going back to his workplace in Jashore after spending vacation in Magura, according to our Jhenidah correspondent.

He was declared dead by the on-duty doctor  after locals rushed him to Magura Sadar Hospital.

Tarikul Islam, assistant superintendent of police in Magura, said the truck driver, Ziaur Rahman, was arrested and the truck was seized.

A case was also filed with Magura Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident, added the police official.
