2 to die for kidnap of madrasa student

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced two persons to death and eight others to life imprisonment in a case filed for kidnapping eight-year-old Abir in May 2015.

Judge Md Khadem Ul Kayes of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal -7 handed down the sentence yesterday.

The death row convicts are Moshiur Rahman Montu and Mizanur Rahman, while Md Rezaul Karim, Md Nazrul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Iqbal Hossain Shuvo, Sajib Ahmed Kamal Uddin, Md Alim Hossain Chandan, Kausar Mridha, and Md Reza Mridha got life imprisonment.

Of them, Mizan, Kausar and Reza are absconding while the others were present during the verdict.

Meanwhile, Zahiruddin Md Babar and Shah Md Waliullah were acquitted as their involvement was not proven.

According to the prosecution, a group of men kidnapped Abir, on May 2015 from Banani. They demanded Tk 10 crore from his father as ransom.

Abir’s father informed Rab and the elite forces rescued the child in front of Kurmitola General Hospital.

Later on May 17, Abir’s uncle Enayet Ullah filed a case with Cantonment Police Station in this regard.
