18 detained at CU, weapons recovered

Police raided three dormitories of Chittagong University yesterday and detained 18 students. They recovered a pipe gun, two rounds of bullets and six machetes.

Police did not disclose the detainees' identities.

University's proctorial body, alongside police, conducted the drive at Shahjalal, Shah Amanat and Suhrawardy halls from 2am to 4am and detained 18 students, including three outsiders, said Belal Md Jahangir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.

They recovered the pipe gun and rounds of bullets from a room in Shahjalal hall and machetes from the other two halls, he added.

Two detainees were later released.

Three cases regarding the possession of arms, and outsiders being in halls, are under process, the OC added.
