1.75 lakh yaba pills seized in Patiya in 2 days

Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) in separate drives seized around 1.75 lakh yaba pills and arrested nine persons from different parts of Chattogram's Patiya upazila in the last two days. 

Police and Rab sources said the pills were being transported from Cox's Bazar to other districts via a salt-laden truck, pickup van and covered-van.

Addition Superintendent of Police Tarik Rahman of Patiya Circle said, "Acting on a tip-off, Police intercepted a Dhaka-bound covered van coming from Ukhiya carrying plastic bottle waste at Kamal Munsirhat by-pass of Patiya around 3pm on Tuesday."

"After searching the sacks, police found 1.20 lakh yaba pills and arrested five red-handed," Tarik said.

"On Monday, police also seized 48,000 pills from a truck coming from Cox's Bazar at Patiya bypass area and arrested two," he said.

Nurul Absar, assistant director of Rab-7's media wing, said, "Rab personnel installed a makeshift check-post at Indropole By-pass Road area on Monday night and arrested a driver and his assistant with 7,730 yaba pills."

"They were handed over to Patiya Police Station," Nurul Absar also told this newspaper.
