17 cases against Dr Yunus over arrear payment

Nobel laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus has been sued in 17 fresh cases filed over not paying arrears of 17 incumbent employees of Grameen Telecom.

The aggrieved filed the cases with 3rd Labour Court of Dhaka on February 2.

Apart from Dr Yunus, chairman of Grameen Telecom, its managing director Md Ashraful Hasan was accused in the cases.

Md Rahibul Islam, chairman of the court, set March 23 for hearing.

Meanwhile, the same court yesterday granted bail to Grameen Communications MD Naznin Sultana, Director Abdul Hai Khan and DGM Gouri Shankar Sarkar after they sought bail in a case filed for violating labour laws.

On January 26, Dr Yunus received bail from the court in the case. On November 3, he was granted bail in five other cases filed over sacking five employees of Grameen Communications.
