16 lakh registered as disabled in Bangladesh

A total 15,93,070  people with disability have been registered so far in Bangladesh, according to the National Taskforce on Disabilities-friendly Disaster Management Affairs.

Of them, 4,33,000 are from 19 storm-prone districts across the country.

The committee revealed the information at a meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief yesterday.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya presided over the meeting, where other officials of the ministry were present.

Speakers at the meeting claimed all necessary steps have been taken to build a database on the basis of gender, age, profession and class of the vulnerable segments.

Till date, around 19,000 Rohingya women and children have been provided with psychosocial counselling, speakers at the meeting also claimed.

Stressing increment in number of trainers and training sessions for differently-abled people, the speakers said around 3,105 officials and teachers have been trained to deliver training to the disabled people living across the country.
