16 fishermen missing in Bay

At least 16 fishermen went missing and another rescued from the Bay in Barguna’s Pathorghata upazila as tides, triggered by rough weather, hit their fishing trawler early Sunday.

One of the nearby fishing boats FB Arif rescued Mahmud, 35, son of Oar Ali of Noakhali, and brought him to Pathorghata, Barguna Trawler Owners’ Association President Golam Mostafa said.

Quoting the rescued fisherman, Mostafa said a fishing trawler, owned by Anwar Hossain of Tafalbaria village in the upazila, with 17 fishermen on board, went in the Bay for fishing a few days ago.

Around 3:00am, while they were fishing in Purbo Lalboya area, about 120 kilometre from the upazila headquarters, their trawler capsized due to a rough weather.
