14 detained over harassing AUW students

Police detained 14 youths from an apartment in port city’s Dampara area yesterday afternoon, following a complaint against them of harassing students of Asian University for Women (AUW).

The director (securities) of AUW filed the complaint, said Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station.

The youths were arrested from a building right opposite the university, he added.

The detainees, aged between 18 and 25 years, worked at a barber shop in Mehedibagh area, and often made lewd gestures to the university students.

“We are quizzing them,” he said.

The Daily Star could not reach any AUW official for comments, as the university was closed yesterday.
