135 structures built illegally on Shitalakkhya river bank removed

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) today demolished 135 structures built illegally on the bank of the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila.

BIWTA's Executive Magistrate Mahabub Jamil conducted the daylong drive in Noapara and Kazipara areas of the upazila, our Narayanganj correspondent reports.

Sheikh Masud Kamal, joint director of BIWTA's Narayanganj river port, told journalists that a total of 135 structures constructed illegally on the land of the river were destroyed today.

In the two days till today, around 200 structures were demolished from the river land, the official said.

The drive will continue against the illegal structures, he added.
