11 HC benches formed to dispose of cases during vacation

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has constituted 11 High Court (HC) benches with 17 judges for disposing of cases during the ongoing annual vacation.

The High Court and Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) went on a 45-day vacation yesterday and will reopen on October 13.

The chief justice also assigned Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice Md Nuruzzaman -- two judges of the Appellate Division -- to run the chamber courts during the vacation, SC spokesman Mohammad Saifur Rahman told The Daily Star yesterday.

Of the 11 vacation HC benches, six are two-member (division) benches and five are one-member (single) benches.

According to a notice issued by the SC administration on its website on Thursday, most of holiday courts will operate from 10:30am to 1:15pm on weekdays.

The number of HC judges is now 91. Among them, three are dealing with the war crimes cases filed at the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
