Newborn rescued from Mirpur dustbin

A one-day old baby girl was rescued from a dustbin on the Ashulia-Mirpur-Beribadh road in Shah Ali area of Dhaka’s Mirpur today.

Being informed by local, police rescued the infant around 4:30pm, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station.

“Barely several hours into her birth, the baby was dumped into the dustbin,” the OC said adding that she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The infant was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of DMCH around 5:30pm, Zahirul Islam, sub-inspector of Shah Ali Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, police said they were yet to find how the baby was abandoned there.
