Myanmar has to solve Rohingya crisis on its own

CU seminar told

The Myanmar government will have to solve the Rohingya crisis on its own as it was created by them, said speakers at a seminar at Chittagong University yesterday.

The seminar, "Rohingya Ethnic Cleansing in Myanmar: In Search of Durable Solution", was organised by the law faculty in its auditorium.

“Bangladesh is a refugee-friendly country and has shown a great humanitarian example by hosting the Rohingyas…,” said CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, the chief guest. “…the Myanmar government will have to solve the crisis on its own.”

He said, “We will have to remain vigilant as a vested quarter is trying to destroy the communal harmony by spreading fake photos and videos in social media taking advantage of the Rohingya crisis.”

While addressing as a key discussant, former diplomat and military analyst Maj (retd) Emdadul Islam said despite repeated condemnation, Myanmar is continuously violating human rights. “More international pressure will have to be put on Myanmar…," he said.CU Pro-VC Prof Shireen Akhter and dean of social science faculty Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed also spoke. Jakir Hossain of the law department presented a paper on the Rohingya issue and law faculty dean Prof ABM Abu Noman chaired the seminar.
