Music no less a subject at book fair

Music lovers and enthusiasts can find suitable titles to explore the area of their interest, as the Amar Ekushey Granthamela offers over 100 of books on various aspects of music this year.

Kakoli Prokashoni is selling 57 music books written and edited by Shankar Roy.

The volumes are on songs written by Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Lalon and on different genres including folk, folk-verse, classical, modern, patriotic and devotional.

“Shreshtha Sangeet Songroho [compiling 1,556 best songs of 37 genres], Rabindra Sangeet Swaralipi, and Shreshtha Sangeet Swaralipi of Shankar Roy are selling most,” said Rezaul, a salesman of the stall.

They also have books on easy learning of harmonium and tabla, he said.

Foyezur Rahman, a visitor, who was looking for Rabindra Sangeet Somogro, said, “I love Rabindra Sangeet very much. The book will help me sing his songs correctly.” 

Rezaul said they sold four to five music books every day.

Momo Prokashoni has 50 books on music and songs of different writers including Dilip Biswas, Shamim Chowdhury Shyamal and Pritam Ahmed.

Tawhidul Islam, a salesperson of Momo, said most people were buying Ganer Khata and Lalon Sangeet (Okhondo), edited by Dilip Biswas.

With over 30 books on music, the stall of Merit Fair Prokashon was set up at the north-west corner of the Suhrawardy Udyan.

Mamun, a staff of the stall, said they sold at least 10 books each day.

Meanwhile, 131 new books were launched on the 11th day of the Granthamela.

The fair begins today at 11:00am. The period between 11:00am and 1:00pm was announced as Shishu Prohor [children's hour].

There will also be a music competition for children at the main stage of Bangla Academy today, starting at 9:30am.
