Muktamoni at ICU

Muktamoni has been taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital as the 12-year-old's condition deteriorated suddenly.

The girl from Satkhira had several major surgeries for having tumours in her right arm and chest over the last couple of months.

She was taken to ICU on Thursday as she was having breathing difficulties, her father Ibrahim told The Daily Star.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, who along with some other doctors has been treating Muktamoni, said she might have been suffering from lung infection or pneumonia.

“She is in a critical condition and currently under our observation,” he told The Daily Star.

The next course of her treatment will begin after several medical tests, said the doctors.

On August 12, DMCH doctors removed a three-kilogramme tumour from Muktamoni's right arm.

The girl later underwent three more consecutive surgeries on the arm on August 29, September 5, and October 8.
