15,149 Bangladeshis in foreign jails

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday told parliament that a total of 15,149 Bangladeshis are now staying in jails of different countries.

Of the total, the highest number, 10,885 Bangladeshis, are in the prisons of Saudi Arabia. In addition, there are 977 prisoners in the UAE, 810 in Malaysia, 661 in Oman, 384 in Kuwait, 309 in Qatar, 257 in Greece, 239 in Libya, 134 in Italy, 124 in the Maldives, 115 in Iraq, 79 in Hong Kong, 84 in Singapore, 59 in Jordan, 27 in South Korea, 23 in Japan, seven in Mauritius and one in  Thailand.
