More gender sensitive reporting sought

Speakers at a workshop yesterday stressed the need for more gender sensitive reporting to eradicate violence against women and young girls.

Media houses can address the issue of violence against women properly through analytical and critical views to help them get justice, they said.

National Girl Child Advocacy Forum (NGCAF) in association with Steps Towards Development (STD) arranged the workshop at STD's office in the capital where representatives from different media houses and rights activists took part.

Nasimun Ara Haq Minu, president of Nari Sangbadik Kendra, said a change in the mindset of the media houses can play an important role to create a gender sensitive society.

Ranjan Karmaker, executive director of STD, said the patriarchal system that exists in society has to be changed.

Nasima Akhter Joly, NGCAF secretary, and Selim Khan, joint editor of Sangbad Protidin, also spoke.
