More communication with target people for rural dev urged

Speakers yesterday urged the government and NGOs to increase communication with their beneficiaries to make their projects more successful.

They made the remarks at a discussion organised by Inter Press Service (IPS), a news wire service, at the capital's Brac Centre after observing communication process of six ongoing projects of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), implemented by the government and NGOs.

Economist Prof Abul Barkat of Dhaka University stressed on more field work for sharing experiences with the beneficiaries.

SM Shameem Reza, an associate professor of DU, Farhana Haque Rahman, director general of IPS, Nick Kotch, former bureau chief of Reuters in Africa, Shameem Ara Sheuli, IFAD's knowledge management officer of Asia Pacific Division; and Shahiduzzaman, editor of News Network, also spoke.
