Mobile court demolishes 60 illegal houses of government employees in Ctg

A mobile court of Chittagong District Administration yesterday demolished 60 illegal tin-shed houses on the land of housing and public works ministry in Firoj Shah Colony in the port city.

Executive Magistrate Syed Morad Ali said the government allotted the housed to some employees of third and fourth grades some 30 years ago but 98 percent of them rented those out.

Ten years ago, the ministry declared the government houses, built on two-acre of land, abandoned and asked the families to vacate them.

Ignoring the notice, the employees instead appealed to the housing department for permanent allotment.

Being refused, the employees filed a writ petition with the High Court but it also dismissed the petition in 2013.

Later, they appealed to the Appellate Division but no hearing has been held till date.

Seven days ago, those families were given notice to vacate the houses but they did not pay any heed, he further said.
