BNP-backed mayoral aspirant Abdul Awal Mintoo today filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order that upheld the cancellation of his nomination for the Dhaka North City Corporation polls.

In his petition, Mintoo sought directives upon the Election Commission to accept his nomination and to allow him to contest the DNCC polls.

After a brief hearing, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent the appeal to a full bench for its hearing on April 9.

The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo yesterday summarily rejected Mintoo's writ petition challenging the divisional commissioner's order that rejected the nomination of Abdul Awal Mintoo.

On Saturday, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman had dismissed Mintoo's appeal against the Returning Officer's decision cancelling his nomination due to procedural flaws.

Mintoo filed the writ petition with the HC on Sunday.
