Vested Property Return Act

Minority groups seek PM's intervention

People from religious and ethnic minority communities will hold demonstration on July 27, seeking the prime minister's intervention for quick implementation of the Vested Property Return Act.

In Dhaka, the programme will be held at Jatiya Press Club at 11:00am.

Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad announced the programme at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club yesterday, according to a press release.

In his written speech at the press conference, Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of Oikya Parishad, said although the PM is willing to implement the act, a “bureaucratic conspiracy” is continuously creating obstruction.

He said a vested quarter is creating obstruction to implementing the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord signed in 1997 and the same group is working against implementation of the Vested Property Return Act.

Mentioning a recent verdict of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath of the High Court, he urged the government to take steps to implement the observations and directives given the HC bench.

With Hubert Gomez, one of the presidents of the Parishad, in the chair, the press conference was attended, among others, by Subrata Chowdhury, Manindra Kumar Nath, Jayanta Sen Dipu, Basudeb Dhar, Nirmal Rozario, Manju Dhar and Jayonti Roy.
