Customs intelligence officials seized a luxury Mercedes, worth around Tk 2 crore, from Dhaka’s Mohakhali DOHS area this afternoon.

The Mercedes-Benz was parked on Road 19 in the DOHS, said Ferdousi Mahbub, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.

The car, said to have been brought under carnet facility, has fake number plate.

Carnet de passage is a permission given to foreigners for using their cars, brought in from abroad, inside a country for a specific period of time. Bangladesh stopped issuing this permit in 2014.

Primary findings suggest that the car was owned by one SK Abu Baker and his son Eric Morshed, the official said. The car was not returned to authorities.

The car is worth around Tk 2 crore.
