UP member 'rapes' RMG worker

A union parishad member has been accused of raping a garment worker in Norshinghopur area of Ashulia, outside the capital, on Sunday night.

Abu Taher Mridha, 40, Yearpur union parishad member, went into hiding, said police.

The 27-year-old victim alleged that some days ago she vacated the house that she rented from Taher as he constantly gave her indecent proposals. But, on Saturday night when she was returning from work some men of Taher forcibly took her to an abandoned house where the UP member raped her.

Taher also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident, she added. A rape case was filed against Taher.

The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday for medical test.
