Students of different government and non-government medical colleges in Dhaka city today staged demonstration demanding cancellation of a proposal to increase tenure of their internship.

Bringing out a procession from the Central Shaheed Minar, the students of different medical colleges including Dhaka Medical College and Sir Salimullah Medical College marched towards Jatiya Press Club around 12:30pm, our staff correspondent reports from the spot.

Later, they also held a press conference there. Abrar Hassan, a fifth-year student of the DMCH, read out a press release to press home their demand.

Abrar announced that if the health ministry does not fulfil their demand, students of all medical colleges across the country will start boycotting classes from September 18.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the president of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).

The health ministry recently published a notice mentioning that the students of all medical colleges will have to complete two-year internship instead of one-year.
