Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq today issued a November 27 ultimatum to stop truck and covered van parking in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area.

The mayor was speaking in an eviction drive at Tejgaon, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Earlier on November 1, the mayor gave an ultimatum to clear off all illegal infrastructures from the railway lands in Tejgaon by November 7. Otherwise, all the illegal infrastructures would be removed on November 8 [today].

After visiting the spot today, the mayor found no one paid any heed to his orders.

The leaders of the Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association told the mayor that they could not implement his instructions due to shortage of time.

They also sought one month time to comply with the orders, the report said.

On assurance that they will not park the trucks and covered vans on any road in Tejgaon area, the mayor granted an extension of time and fixed November 27 as the deadline.
