Matia places EPZ labour bill in JS

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday placed two separate bills titled “Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Bill” and “Bangladesh EPZ Labour Bill” in parliament.

The investment bill was aimed at setting up a new authority by merging together the Board of Investment (BoI) and the Privatisation Commission for encouraging local and foreign investments in the private sector.

The bill was sent to the parliamentary standing committee on law, justice and parliamentary for scrutiny and sending back to the House within next 10 working days.

According to the bill, there will be a Bangladesh Investment Development Authority with its main office in Dhaka.

There will be a 17-member governing board headed by the prime minister, while its executive chairman will act as the member secretary.

The EPZ labour bill was also sent to the same parliamentary committee for scrutiny and sending back to the House within 15 working days.
