Boy killed in knife attack by marauding friend

Another hurt while they tried to stop a clash

A teenager killed one of his friends and injured another in a knife attack at Geneva Camp in the capital's Mohammadpur early yesterday.

The suspected killer, Shomsher, attacked the two friends when the latter tried to stop a clash between him and another teenager, according to witnesses.

The deceased was identified as Md Asif, 17, a worker at an automobile shop. The injured, Md Sajib, was hospitalised with stab injuries in the right thigh.

Md Arman, brother of the deceased, alleged that Shomsher clashed with Rubel, his colleague at the workshop, over sharing money the two obtained by stealing and selling car parts.

The clash started around 12:45am.

The deceased's brother-in-law Md Sultan, who witnessed the incident, said that after being stopped by the two friends, Shomsher left the spot and came back with a knife. But in the meantime, Rubel fled, and an angry Shomsher then attacked his two friends Asif and Sajib, he added.

A team of Mohammadpur police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) for autopsy.

DMC morgue sources said there were five stab injuries in the body, three of them in the chest.

Jamaluddin Meer, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said both Shomsher and Rubel were on the run. Police will learn the real incident once they are arrested, he told The Daily Star.
