‘JMB man’ killed in ‘gunfight’ at Khilgaon

An alleged activist of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a “gunfight” with detectives in Khilgaon area of Dhaka early today.

Following the “gunfight”, police took bullet-hit Pias, 30, to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

Kazi Mainul Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Khilgaon Police Station, said the incident took place around 3:30am near Khidma Hospital. He said around four to five youths, including the decreased, were roaming in the area.

The youths opened fire at a team of DB police, when they, being tipped-off, went there, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate.

Hospital sources said there were bullet injuries on his head and chest.

The OC also informed that three hand bombs, a pistol and three rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot. Three cases – murder, arms and explosives – were filed in connection with the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed that the deceased was a JMB activist.

DMP sources said Pias was involved in the bomb attack in Hossaini Dalan in the Old part of Dhaka on the occasion of Shia Muslim community’s Ashura memorial.......

A man was killed in what police described as gunfight in Khilgaon area of Dhaka early today.

The incident took place around 3:30am near Khidma Hospital. Police could not provide any names until morning, but claimed that the victim was a criminal.

Kazi Mainul Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Khilgaon Police Station, said the man, aged around 35 years, was killed in the gunfight with detectives.

He was declared dead around 5:00am after being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the police official added.
